Orders
Orders let your agent commit to a trade or arrange execution at a specified price condition. Use actual stop-loss and take-profit orders for price-based exits, and limit orders for entries at a specified price or better.
An accepted order can execute without another agent evaluation. Use triggers for decisions that need fresh context, such as “If BTC rises 3% over 1h, consider an ETH entry.”
Available order types
Section titled “Available order types”| Type | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Market | Attempts immediate execution. The actual fill price and quantity depend on available liquidity. |
| Limit | Buys at the limit price or lower, or sells at the limit price or higher. Unfilled quantity remains open until filled or canceled. |
| Stop loss | Automatically attempts to close exposure when the stop price is reached. |
| Take profit | Automatically attempts to close all or part of a position when a target price is reached. |
A limit order can fill immediately if its price is already executable. A price touch does not guarantee a fill. DXAP’s stop-loss and take-profit orders use market execution when activated, so their trigger prices are not guaranteed fill prices.
Short strategy examples
Section titled “Short strategy examples”Put ongoing rules in your strategy or persistent instructions. These examples describe order behavior, not recommended trading levels. Instructions guide the agent; confirm that the requested orders were accepted.
Enter with a limit order
Section titled “Enter with a limit order”If my strategy approves an ETH long, place a limit entry at $2,000 using a size within my risk limits. Attach a stop at $1,940 and a take profit at $2,200. Cancel the remaining entry if the setup becomes invalid.
The entry can fill at $2,000 or lower. Reassessing whether the setup remains valid requires an agent evaluation.
Attach protection when opening a position
Section titled “Attach protection when opening a position”When opening a position, include a stop loss 3% against the planned entry price and a take profit 10% in favor of it in the same order request.
For a planned long entry at $100, those levels are $97 and $110. For a planned short entry at $100, they are $103 and $90. The agent converts these distances into explicit prices before submitting the entry. The actual fill price can differ, so the final distances may differ from 3% and 10%.
Attaching exits uses one agent tool call for the entry and its protection. These percentages refer to price movement, not leveraged return on margin or net profit after fees and funding.
Update protection after a partial exit
Section titled “Update protection after a partial exit”After the first take profit fills, review the remaining position. When valid, move its stop to entry and retain the remaining take-profit targets in the updated exit plan.
Moving the stop requires an agent action. This instruction does not create an automatic trailing stop.
Protection at entry
Section titled “Protection at entry”An entry can include one stop loss, one take profit, or both in the same request. Each attached exit covers the entry quantity; partial take-profit percentages and multiple targets are configured separately for an existing position.
- Market entry: the same tool call submits exits after a confirmed fill and cover the quantity actually filled, including a partial fill. Entry success does not guarantee exit-placement success; inspect both outcomes.
- Limit entry: attached exits wait for the entire entry to fill. Partial fills are not yet protected by those waiting exits. The agent should review filled exposure and arrange separate protection when needed.
Canceling an unfilled remainder removes the entry’s waiting attached exits. Any quantity already filled remains in the position and needs its own protection.
Managing an open position
Section titled “Managing an open position”For an existing position, the agent can set one stop covering the remaining position and up to four take-profit targets. Target percentages must total no more than 100%.
Take-profit percentages become fixed quantities when configured. For a 10-unit position, two 50% targets each close 5 units, subject to size precision; the second target is not 50% of what remains after the first fill. Review target sizes when the position changes.
Updating the exit plan replaces the complete active DXAP-managed setup for that symbol. The agent must include every stop and target it intends to retain. Pending entries and their waiting attached exits remain separate, as do externally created orders.
The agent can edit a regular limit order’s price or remaining size, cancel an eligible individual order, or cancel the active DXAP-managed position exits. Attached exits retain their prices and resize with an edited entry. A partially filled entry with attached exits must be canceled rather than edited. Canceling one attached exit preserves its parent entry and the other exit.
Canceling an order does not undo existing fills. Canceling protection does not close the position.
Resting orders and position limits
Section titled “Resting orders and position limits”Resting limit entries count toward the maximum open-position limit before they fill. The cap counts distinct symbols across positions and pending entries on the selected account.
An open BTC position plus a resting ETH entry uses two slots. An open BTC position plus another BTC entry uses one. Partial fills count once for that symbol. Reduce-only closing orders, stop losses, and take profits do not use additional slots.
See Agent settings for the cap and other trading limits.
Review orders separately from agent status
Section titled “Review orders separately from agent status”Distinguish accepted orders, exits waiting for entry fill, partial fills, and completed fills. Confirm protection separately from entry success in your order results and agent activity.
Pausing an agent or revoking its trading key does not cancel existing venue orders or close positions. Review these separately when pausing or revoking access. See Policy and execution for applicable checks.
